Ms Kinghorne, who runs Hogans pharmacy in Sale Street, is number two on the Orange Residents and Ratepayers Association ticket.

She said the current council, 10 men and one woman, did not reflect the make-up of the community.

"Except for Joanne McRae they are all old white men," she said.

"I've got nothing against old white men but they're not 95 per cent of the people of Orange.

"I think it would be good if council was a broader range of people, just a bit more diversity."

Ms Kinghorne said a personal issue with council's planning department had led her to decide to stand for council. She said she rang the council to find out when her planning matter would be resolved.

"I was told 'it will be done when it is done," she said.

"That was the trigger for me. All you've got to do is be honest with people and if they were, there wouldn't be so many problems."

Ms Kinghorne said she had since discovered others were having similar problems.

"Since I've been whingeing long and hard about my issue with council over the pharmacy so many people have said the same thing.

"That made me look at things and listen a bit more."

Ms Kinghorne said she had been following the livestream of council meetings for 12 months and believed councillors needed to show more respect to the community.

"Of the councillors there are probably only three who are always well prepared and don't waffle," she said.
