That's the case for Pete Shea leading up to the Premier Hockey League's fifth round as the green and golds were belted by St Pat's last weekend and look to bounce back with a home victory against Souths.
Last week's 4-0 defeat certainly didn't feel good in the ensuing days, but has given Shea's girls clarity regarding what they need to work on if they want to push for a premiership this winter.
"Our focus wasn't on the scoreline, we knew we were coming up against a good side," Shea said.
"This week we just practiced on the patterns and skills we want to implement into the game.
"We were playing well against St Pat's, but we just made a couple of mistakes that resulted in goals. Teams like St Pat's punish you for those mistakes."
Another element working against the green and golds in the round four contest was the amount of desperation the blue and whites must have had as they were winless through almost a month of play.
Even though CYMS have lost three games in a row since winning their opener at Parkes, Shea isn't pushing the panic button and trusts not only the processes he has in place, but his improving squad.
"There's a lot of inexperience in the side and we're working to get those players experienced as quickly as we can," he said.
"We're working on what we need to work on and we're focusing on our game. If we continue to do that, we'll get that win at some point."
"It's just a very young side and we still need to bring a lot of these players up to speed."
Shea has had plenty of experience coaching in the Premier League Hockey competitions and knows that Souths is a dangerous opponent.
"They've got some quality players and they were up 2-0 so we know they can score goals," he said.
"We've spoken about our defensive patterns leading into this one."
After the PLH season, Shea will look forward to coaching the NSW Pride in the Hockey One competition from October onward.
The green and golds are the only Orange side that will play at home in round five, as Nic Milne's United women will look to build on what's been a sensational start to the campaign as they head to Bathurst for a contest with City.
The new-look outfit sits second on the ladder with Lithgow Panthers above them.
Chloe Barrett and the Ex-Services squad will visit Parkes as they look to improve on what's been an up and down campaign so far. Those two sides will kick-off at 12.30pm.
CYMS and Souths kick-off at 3.10pm.
