Murals celebrating Eugowra's rugby league history and its hospitals will be painted over the weekend.

The murals are about 8m x 1.5m, and multiple artists contribute to each.

Some specialise in painting horses or portraiture, while other are expert at lettering and "scrolling" (the fancy border around the edge).

The committee decides on the theme and concepts each year, and local graphic artist Jodie Greenhalgh creates the images.

Eugowra Murals committee member Tim Cheney said that the town "had pretty much run out of walls, so they're painting on aluminium panels".

The image is then projected onto the aluminium panels at night so a charcoal outline of the image can be drawn.

"Then the artists turn up and we hand them a colour print of the image and say, 'Here, paint this'," said Mr Cheney.

"They mix their colours up and away they go."

Fourteen artists will attend this weekend's event, and the public is welcome to watch them work.

Once completed, a new location is found for each mural and a development application lodged with Cabonne Council.

There are 32 murals on the Eugowra Art Trail.

The rugby league mural will honour the 10 captain-coaches of Eugowra who won premierships over the past 100 years.

The hospital mural will include the CWA Hospital (built 1930), the Eugowra War Memorial Hospital (built 1948), the current hospital, doctors, nurses and the first baby born at the CWA Hospital.
