Premier Gladys Berejiklian told an infrastructure summit in Sydney last week the government was pushing ahead with plans that would see 250km/h and 200km/h trains in regional NSW.

However, she did not mention the western route.

Regional Transport minister Paul Toole has since said the planning process was still looking at Lithgow-Orange-Parkes among routes including Sydney-Newcastle, Goulburn and Nowra.

"There's still a strategy and there was $10 million for the western route, which was part of the investigation, but it also will see some of that $10 million being invested into improvements along the western line," he said.

Orange Rail Action Group chairman Dr Peter Bilenkij said the government had allocated funds to develop planning for the four routes.

"We're confident that planning is occurring," he said.

"We're confident, in due course, that planning will be complete. This all takes time."

In the meantime he said the group was still pushing for two morning train services from Dubbo and Parkes, through Orange, to Sydney.

He said the introduction of a new regional train fleet and maintenance centre at Dubbo was due in two-three years which they hoped would allow for the new services.

"That's two separate morning trains," he said.

"We're just waiting patiently for planning to finalise and the new regional fleet to come on line."
