Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the two-vehicle crash, where three people died, at about 4pm on April 22 on the Mid Western Highway near Woodstock, east of Cowra.
Chifley Police District Chief Inspector Glenn Cogdell said upon arrival, officers found a white 2004 Holden utility and silver 2013 Toyota Yaris had collided head-on.
The Toyota was travelling east, and the Holden was travelling west, when the collision occurred in the east-bound lanes. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage.
The two occupants of the Toyota, an 87-year-old man and an 85-year-old woman from Lyndhurst, died at the scene.
The sole occupant of the Holden, a 76-year-old man from Young, also died.
"The people who have passed away as a result of this collision have come from country areas and, being small communities, it will have a significant impact on those towns,"Chief Inspector Cogdell said.
"My condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who have died as a result of this tragedy."
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dashcam footage, to contact Chifley Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
