"I can't remember exactly, but it was dark," he said.
Mr Wright, who owns Cafe Latte with his wife Emma, is doing his best to hold his business and family together following the fire above their cafe on Summer Street on April 5.
Mr and Mrs Wright have children with special needs, and the stress on the couple has been immense.
Much of the cafe's equipment, furniture and decorations were ruined due to the upstairs fire, following water damage and the collapse of the apartment floor above.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
The Wrights accepted an offer of help from the Orange Uniting Church, which has a commercial kitchen and meeting rooms.
The temporary Cafe Latte opened on Monday morning with a limited menu of coffee and cakes.
Mr Wright thanked customers for supporting the business and for being patient during a particularly busy morning period.
He said he hoped that they could expand the menu over coming weeks as they settled into the new site and came to understand what exactly could be achieved.
"We did a lot of work last week getting the machines installed and cakes organised, and now we're trying to work out our menu for the next few weeks.
"We're hoping to serve light meals."
He said the aim was to have a limited menu of some of the most popular items.
The cafe will be open Mondays and Tuesdays, and then Thursday to Saturday, as the church requires the kitchen on Wednesdays.
"We might do coffees Wednesday morning, we've still got to nut that out."
Mr Wright said he and Emma were trying to juggle work and family commitments with the acres of paperwork required to get insurance claims moving.
"There is a lot to try and work out with the insurance side, so many details; it's progressing, but slowly."
Mr Wright said he's bracing for three months of trying times.
