On average 45.2mm falls in Orange throughout the middle month of Autumn. That's 5mm less than the city's next driest month, which is May (50.2mm).
This year, Orange looks set for an extremely dry April, though, with just 4.8mm of rain recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology's station at the Orange airport so far this month.
There's not a whole heap on the radar, either, with morning frosts and fine or partly cloudy days on the horizon for the next week.
Our best bet for rain this week is a 20 per cent chance on Wednesday.
The dry April in 2021 follows an unseasonably wet one 12 months prior, with 145.2mm recorded in 2020.
Prior to that, that dry trend was evident, with 0.2mm in 2019, 14mm in 2018, 46.2mm in 2017 and 54.6mm in 2016.
To date in 2021, Orange has received above average rainfall, with 465.8mm (from 36 days of rain) recorded at the airport. That's up by over 200mm, with an average of 254.5mm for Orange normally in gauges by mid-April.
