I wish to voice in the strongest terms my opposition to the proposed NSW Land and Housing Commission development in East Orange and to highlight the arrogant manner in which the project has been progressed

A veil of secrecy exists, any real attempts to be heard have been thwarted
This is a poor planning decision, which bypasses local government processes and will result in the forced relocation of public housing residents, the demolition of their 1950s homes and the construction of high density housing in a much loved heritage part of the early part of the city of Orange. Indeed just the fact that the Orange City Council has recently adopted a new Heritage Conservation Zone covering this part of our City should halt this destruction.
I was led to believe that NSW Government entities, namely the Communities and Justice (DCI Housing NSW, Western NSW) and the NSW Land and Housing Corporation, Department of Planning Industry and Environment would respect not only the current public housing residents of these targeted houses but the Historical nature of this area.
After a meeting in our home, with representatives of NSW LAHC on Friday, December 11, 2020 we were optimistic our voices were heard, only to receive a letter to "The occupant", 24-30 Spring Street, clearly our voices have not been heard, our optimism very quickly has changes to pessimism.
The local community does not support this change to the existing mix of tenants which has been in place for nearly 70 years, is working well and provides a safe environment for all
We have listened and understand the need for more public housing but there are many more appropriate greenfield sites to develop (30 sites have been identified within the city). We are aware that high density public housing just does not work. Why not invest in repair, maintenance or retrofit existing property which has been allowed (due to poor policies and management) been allowed to fall into disrepair.
We have listened to the Public Service agenda, but it appears that they have no desire to listen to our concerns or have any respect of our concerns. In the past the NSW Government ignored the protests regarding greyhounds and local government amalgamations and the voters of Orange responded. We implore Sam Farraway MLC, Mr Donato and Minister Pavey to continue to action our legitimate concerns and support us in demanding a more flexible approach to social housing within the City of Orange.
HANDS OFF EAST ORANGE.
