Stephen Barry John Donoghue, 63, of Edward Street was observed struggling to "maintain his position in the lane" while driving on Summer Street shortly after 11.30pm on February 19.
After being stopped by police, Donoghue blew a high-range result of 0.151.
He told police that he had been at the pub from 3pm until 11.20pm - during which time he had drunk seven schooners of XXXX.
Orange Local Court heard that Donoghue needed his driver's licence because he worked as a builder and renovator who lived on-site at locations that were often remote.
Magistrate David Day convicted Donoghue and disqualified him from driving for five months - after which time he must use a mandatory interlock device for 24 months.
