Joshua Paul Dinsdale, 30, of North Orange, was stopped for a random road-side test on the afternoon of December 15, 2020.
A secondary oral fluid test subsequently detected the drug. Dinsdale reportedly told police that he had smoked cannabis the night before.
Appearing in Orange Local Court on Monday, Dinsdale's representative Mason Manwaring said his client was "aware that he needs to change his habits or not drive".
He was placed on a Conditional Release Order for 12 months by magistrate David Day.
