The Cabonne Community Centre at Bank Street will be bid farewell with a "wake" by current and former members of the amateur theatre group this Saturday, April 17, from 2pm to 4pm.
Former Molong Player Audrey Kerr didn't expect there would too many people in the community sad to see the old hall go, due to the extent that it needed upgrades.
"We're very pleased to see it go. Okay, there's a lot of stories [attached to it]," Ms Kerr said.
However, she didn't know how the building's resident "ghost" would feel.
A Cabonne Council spokesperson said the construction company that was awarded the contract is expected to begin demolition in May.
"Joss Constructions from Dubbo has been selected as the preferred tenderer who will take over the site on 26th April 2021," the spokesperson said.
"The aim of the Cabonne Community Centre is to deliver an expanded, accessible, and modern community building."
It is estimated that the new centre will be completed in May 2022.
The Central Western Daily first reported in March 2019 that the planned community centre - which will include a library, auditorium and support area with a kitchen, amenities and storage - has a $5m budget.
The demolition of the existing hall will also include the neighbouring cottage.
Cabonne Council Mayor - and former member of the Molong Players-, Kevin Beatty - a said it was "fantastic that we are so close to beginning this project".
"The Cabonne Community Centre will be a key facility within our shire. Its expansion and upgrade will allow our community to have access to a modern and state-of-the-art building which will support community programs, events, cultural activities and initiatives."
The construction of the new Cabonne Community Centre is jointly funded by Cabonne Council and the state Government. The project is being managed by the Public Works Advisory.
