Mr Perkiss said that when he took over the reins of the club in 2018 "there were a few financial issues".
"The mandate from the board was to address them in a timely fashion," he said.
"We've gone through that process where it's gone from some struggles to an absolute performer ... the club is now positioned as one of the industry's higher achievers in terms of the key metrics."
Mr Perkiss, his wife and their three children - aged six months to seven years - came to Orange from Bulli on the NSW South Coast.
They bought a house in Orange and have made friends, however Mr Perkiss said it was the right time to return home.
"They've built some magnificent relationships in Orange and uprooting them has been quite a challenge, they're very settled," said Mr Perkiss.
"But predominantly [it's for] family.
"It's an opportunity to get back to where our family and friends reside; over the lasttwo and half years we've been trekking back and forth on weekends for social occasions and milestones, but obviously with a young family it's good to have grandparents and aunts and uncles to be part of the kids' lives."

He said the last two quarters had seen record growth at the club.
He said The Greenhouse precinct had been an "outstanding" success, often reaching capacity of more than 700 people on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
"The food and beverage team have found a product that resonates with the community of Orange and also visitors to the region."
Mr Perkiss said the club employees more than 200 people in full-time, part-time and casual roles.
According to the club's 2020 annual report the wage bill was over $8 million.
