The Salvation Army has welcomed two new staffers - Major Colin Young and his wife Major Kate Young.

Mr Young's previous position was as the associate director for emergency services (NSW/ACT) while Mrs Young was the chaplain at the Oasis youth centre in Darlinghurst.
"Salvation Army life is very varied," said Mr Young.
"We spend the week attending to ... the provision of assistance to people who need help; we'll be involved in working with young people; we involve ourselves in community groups and we have Sunday worship."
He said most of the people who attended the weekly services were "lifelong Salvationists - they grew up in the Army ... but the idea is that we attract more people".
"When I go to the high schools I don't preach, but I try to live my life so the kids can see something in me, and we've had success with that in the past, with people asking 'What have you got in your life that I need in my life?'"
