More than 100 millimetres has fallen since Sunday afternoon leading to dams overflowing and flooding forcing the closure of several roads at the southern end of Orange on Tuesday.
With 223 millimetres having fallen by Tuesday afternoon it is now our wettest March since 1956.
Orange City Council said the big wet had also led to strong flows into the city's dams.
Spring Creek Dam was overflowing on Tuesday morning while water has been gushing over the top of Lake Canobolas.
Council said crews also worked to remove debris alongside a bridge at the second crossing on Ophir Road.
The following roads are closed because of flooding: Ginns Road between Huntley Road and Forest Road, Hiney Road between Huntley and Forest Road, Selwood Lane between Cadia Road and Forest Road and Lone Pine South between Huntley and Dairy Creek Road.
A council spokesman said that since 6am Monday to 10am Tuesday the level of Suma Park had risen by 1.11 per cent to 53.53 per cent of capacity.
The combined total storage for Orange's water supply has risen by 1.55 per cent in the same time to now be at 62.33 per cent.
