It didn't take long for that assessment to come to fruition as the five-year-old jumped a treat from barrier four, sitting one back for the first 1200 metres before braining them down the straight.

The one and-a-half length triumph tasted sweet for McCabe, but not as sweet as a potential Wellington Cup win would taste - that's where Renalot will be competing next.

"I was always confident heading into that race," McCabe said.

"I told Clayton [Gallagher] before the race to be second or third no matter what... she was the best horse in the race and was too good for them. She should have been $1.70.

"She's pulled up well... she could run it again today."

McCabe's opinion of the horse was far from unfounded as he felt she had superior form lines leading into the race, finishing three lengths behind Above and Beyond at Canterbury after a nightmare trip.

"She got shuffled back to last one the turn and came home massively," he said.

"She also ran second behind If You Think So at Wyong."

Sunday's victory was Renalot's first ever win over the mile and if she wants to bring her connections $100,000, she'll need to go 100m further in the 1700m Wellington Cup race.

Beyond that, McCabe's targetting her for the 2100m Orange Cup on April 16, a distance that's well and truly uncharted territory for the mare.

"Based on the eye, I'm confident she can see it out," he said.

"She looks like a horse that wants 1800-200m already."

The prelude victory gives her automatic entry into the cup.

Wellington nominations will be available for public viewing on Tuesday.
