News of the decision was quickly met with anger from community members, with an online petition being launched.
At the time of going to print - 24 hours after its creation - the petition had accumulated 760 signatures.
Aaron Pearson, who started the petition, said the next step was to start circulating a physical petition for those without internet access to sign.
"[There's been] a pretty emotional response from people," he said. "Nearly all of the businesses and the council do their banking through that branch of the Commonwealth Bank.
"You can't expect people to make the long trip into Orange to make their deposits and transactions, etcetera."
Also on the branch closure chopping block is Blayney's Commonwealth Bank.
Cabonne mayor Kevin Beatty said the impact the closure would have on his community was of grave concern.
"The Commonwealth Bank branches provide a number of services to the Blayney and Cabonne communities, including telling services, business banking, financial planning assistance and international services. I am particularly worried about the impact the closure will have on the community and local staff," he said.
Member for Calare Andrew Gee has called on the bank to re-think and reverse a decision to close bank branches at Molong and Blayney.
"It's bitterly disappointing to find out about the foreshadowed closures which are scheduled for the 4th of June. While local bank branch staff were informed on Friday, there has been no consultation with the wider community," Mr Gee said.
