After giving up a late goal to Western Rage in the season opener the Western men are going back to the drawing board, in particular at the front of the field.

Western will be hoping to avoid the same issues from last season: Maintaining possession and creating chances but being unable to put those opportunities away.

"To be honest it was certainly disappointing to come away no points because we probably dominated from the outset through to the last 10 minutes," Western coach Mark Rooke said.

"We just seemed to make some poor decisions in the last 10 minutes which allowed our opposition to have the ball in too many good areas for them. We presented them with a chance and they took it.

"Before that we probably had about five chances. It's always been our Achilles heel - we don't score enough goals, especially when we're on top in matches like the weekend gone."

Prospect United SC also went down in their opening round game, a 2-0 loss to Fraser Park FC.

Western and Prospect played out an entertaining 4-all draw last season.

Rooke rates Fraser Park highly this year, so he sees Prospect as a challenging opponent for the second round.

"Fraser Park are certainly one of the heavyweights of the competition. Prospect got beaten 2-0 and that's no disrespect as a result," he said.

"Prospect are always difficult to play against. They're very physical. Last year they had some boys up front who were very inventive and quick and they certainly made us pay for some mistakes we made.

"From all reports they've recruited quite well and they've even got one of our boys, Jesse Boness, who's come across to them."
