The funding which was announced Tuesday by the Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock will see the shelter receiving $210,000.

That boost will pay for the renovation of the old cattery as well as a new dog exercise yard.

"Everyone knows the RSPCA does a great job caring for thousands of animals every year, which is why I am so proud that this funding will ensure the organisation can renew and expand their facilities around the State," Mrs Hancock said.

"The enhanced facilities will no doubt help the RSPCA carry out its important work, particularly its invaluable pet adoption services, community assistance programs and animal rescue services."

RSPCA shelters across the State will receive $10.5 million in total.

Works will include a dog playground and COVID-safe outdoor public waiting area at Sydney, veterinary hospital upgrades at Broken Hill and the Hunter, a new cattery at Illawarra and cattery upgrades at Coffs Harbour and Orange.

"For RSPCA NSW the upgrades will help us to help every animal that comes through our doors for decades to come," RSPCA CEO Steve Coleman said.

"Our facilities not only provide shelter and vet treatment for animals, they will help us to continue to support, educate and help communities across NSW in responsible pet ownership and animal welfare."
