In a recent trip to Wagga Wagga for the Junior State Cup Southern Conference, Orange ranked third in the club championships tally, trailing only to Penrith and Hills - a pair of Sydney sides.
Of the ten Thunder teams that travelled West, nine of them progressed to the quarter finals with the under 10s boys going all the way, winning the championship on Sunday afternoon.
Also prominent were the under 18s girls as they narrowly fell to Penrith in the title match.
While it's good to secure big victories like that, the real win lies in the amount of registered players at the Thunder, something that representative director Wayne Hill puts down to the ongoing work behind the scenes.
"There's been a really big build up at the club since its inception," Hill said.
"The Sydney sides are the powerhouses but where we sit at a club - per capita - exceeds expectations year-by-year.
"We had some success early on but in the last five years, the club has exponentially grown thanks to the good people we have.
"There's great volunteers and there's coaches who are willing to upskills themselves to pass on that knowledge to the players."
Travelling out of town to play touch football for three days every young player's dream, and Hill says it's something the kids look forward to.
"They love it... you just look at their faces when they're there and you can tell," he said.
"After all the hard work they put it at training it's fantastic for everyone to get together and go to these tournaments and compete at a high level.
"All of the coaching staffs really worked well with their teams this year."
The state cup is a perfect segue into the local-level finals series as the junior squads are set to kick-off postseason action, while seniors will start the following weekend.
In addition to the finals series, the Struddy's Super Series will continue throughout the week, Hill dubbing that as a 'fantastic inclusion for players to continue their development.'
