Days before Christmas last year, Jade Cornthwaite had a WorkCover claim rejected. This left herself, her partner Stephanie-Jade Wilson and their children in a "massive financial crisis".
She says trying to find work at the moment has been an arduous task.
"The amount of applications I've filled in with no responses back or just a simple email with 'your application will not be progressing any further' has been frustrating," she said.
"Nobody is willing to give me a chance."
Prior to her unemployment, she was a disability support worker and has prior experience in child care.
The lack of income has also taken a tole on her mental health.
"We've had to skimp on a lot of things that we normally wouldn't," she said.
"We have two young children so it's been hard to even find nappies and creams. We don't have medications we would normally have. My son is anaphylactic and we can't afford to get his Epipen.
"I can't afford to get his steroid puffer because he is asthmatic. My daughter often has an excoriated bum from nappy rash and it's hard to get her nappy rash cream because we have to prioritise getting food."
As a last resort, she set up a GoFundMe page with an admittedly lofty target of $10,000 to try and keep their heads above water.
"It would pay off all our debt and cover our rent until I hopefully find a job. It would help with groceries and would mean the world," she said.
