About 7.30pm on Friday, February 19, officers attached to Central North Police District were called to Duff Street, Walgett, where a 24-year-old man was found with multiple injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for stab wounds to the head and shoulder, before being taken to the Walgett Multipurpose Centre.

The Walgett man was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Dubbo Base Hospital for further treatment.

The man was later transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, where he is reported to be in a critical condition in a medically induced coma.

Strike Force Polworth was established to investigate the assault.

Following inquiries, about 1am on Tuesday a man was arrested at a house in Myall Street, Walgett.

The 21-year-old was taken to Walgett Police Station and charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man appeared in Walgett Local Court on Tuesday and was refused bail to appear at the same court on Tuesday, April 13.

About 9.30am, another man was arrested at Walgett Police Station.

The 22-year-old was charged with wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man appeared in Walgett Local Court today and was refused bail to appear at the same court on April 14.
