The general manager's report to councillors - presented at Cabonne Council's Tuesday meeting - recommended that $55,437.80 be spent.
An independent report "highlighted immediate action is required to install leak detection and automatic shutdown units at Cabonne chlorine gas operated swimming pool sites, due to safety audit of the public pools".
The general manager's report stated: "The units operate by sounding an audible alarm and shutting down the chlorine gas dosing units when a chlorine gas leak is detected.
"This automatic shutdown ensures that risk to the public in proximity to the pool plant room is reduced."
The installation of the units has occurred as an "immediate action", with the units operational at the pool sites.
