This year's cohort of school leaders did the annual celebration proud; Armed with long-stemmed roses and musical instruments, the students went from classroom to classroom gifting love songs and other gestures of adoration to individuals.

Each year the proceeds are raised in the week leading up to February 14, before the prefects dedicate a whole day to performing the songs.

Also incorporated into the day's festivities is the sale of cupcakes and "love potions" (creamy soda spiders).

Teacher Mel Hope explained that normally funds raised by the prefects went towards the special gift year 12 students give to the school upon their graduation.

However part of this year's proceeds will be donated to the charity HeartKids which supports children and young people with congenital heart and acquired heart conditions.

"It's a long-running tradition which is lovely," Ms Hope said.

"It's all done in good jest. It's a really nice day and the kids all love a good cupcake sale so we always raise heaps of money."

The teacher added that the musical numbers the prefects performed were made all the better by the fact there were a number of musical students among them.

Their collective talent was made quite obvious during an impromptu song the students performed for the Central Western Daily's benefit.

This involved them roping innocent bystander Jock Elliott into being serenaded with the John Legend chorus: "'Cause all of me/ Loves all of you/ Love your curves and all your edges/ All your perfect imperfections".
