The Orange product and Folau were teammates for French team Catalan Dragons in 2019.
Before the two linked up at the Super League club, Folau had his contract with Rugby Australia torn up after writing that "hell awaits" gay people in an Instagram post.
Journalist Andrew Webster said on the Morning Glory with Matty Johns podcast that "when Israel first joined Catalan, he joined the players' WhatsApp group and Jimmy Maloney, god love him, couldn't help himself and just starting bombarding him with gay pornography.''
"So I think that's the only time [Folau's views] actually came up."
Folau has recently been linked with a return to the NRL this season.
Following a stinging backlash on Wednesday, the club released a statement saying "while the Dragons did enquire about signing Folau, the club can confirm that such discussions have now ceased".
