The club began their pre-season trials in the middle of last month and are now starting to ramp things up.
"We've been trialling and training on Sundays for the last few weeks," stand-in captain Duncan Logan said.
"We were going to start Tuesday and Sunday last week but the weather put a stop to that, but we will be Thursday and Sunday from now on."
Barnies finished in fifth place last season, a single point out of the finals race.
Logan hopes that a crop of new faces will help better that mark this time around.
"We've had good numbers at training, about 20-plus every session which is nice," he said.
"It gives you a good look at everyone's skill set and we've got quite a few new faces, although I won't name too many people because (coach Josh Ward) hasn't picked the side yet, but some good new additions actually.
"We've had a couple out from (Western) Mariners. Myself and the other boys are ex-Mariners anyway, but a couple under 20s age, like 18-20 range and also a couple other local players that are throwing their hat in the ring for a spot."
While training has been good so far, they are still a little way off putting out a side for any proper pre-season games.
"It's pretty early for a trial match," the captain added.
"You want to train and build up some fitness to make sure there's not gonna be any injuries and all that sorta thing. We're easing everyone into it.
"We're probably a month away from a proper trial game. We've played some internal games with the numbers we've had but for a proper friendly about a month away."
And if you haven't had an opportunity to get down to Sir Jack Brabham Park for a session yet, you need not worry.
"We're still looking to pick a squad, so we haven't peppered everyone with fitness, just lots of on the ball fitness which is the best way to do it I feel." Logan said.
"At the moment we're leaving (the squad) open until at least the end of the month, maybe longer.
"It depends who comes in and we want to leave it open cause obviously there's people playing cricket and other sports at the minute that may not be able to make trials and people with work commitments.
"We don't want to call it too early when there's potentially new people to come into the fold."
Training sessions are open to players on Thursdays and Sundays for anyone interested in wanting to trial.
