After being stablised and treated on site for serious burns to his arms, legs and face, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted the 21-year-old man to Sydney to receive specialist treatment at the burns unit.

Northern Sydney Local Health District indicated the man was in a stable condition on Wednesday morning after receiving treatment and remains in hospital for the time being, although there was no confirmation of when he might be discharged.

Three NSW Ambulance crews were called to the scene just after 10.30am on Australia Day - Tuesday, January 26 - after receiving reports of a boat explosion and fire, with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter tasked to assist at the incident.

Paramedics and the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team treated the patient before he was transported to Sydney and was still in a serious condition at the time.

A 31-year-old male was also treated as a result of the incident, he was conveyed to Orange Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

A fuel fire was being queried as the potential cause, without any confirmation.
