There was no shortage of either across NSW in 2020, but Monday's release of the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages' annual top 10 list revealed the most popular names proved consistent.
Amelia was crowned the most popular girls' name of last year, moving up two spots from the 2019 rankings and unseating Charlotte as new parents' favourite.
Olivia held its second-placed ranking from the previous year while, despite sliding from the top, Charlotte still proved a popular enough name to finish third.
For the seventh consecutive year, Oliver was the most popular boys' name.
Noah and William once again finished second and third, the trio of names' top three status has been unchanged for the past five years.
"In an unforgettable year, NSW welcomed tens of thousands of babies. I congratulate every family that grew a little bigger," Attorney General Mark Speakman said, revealing the list earlier this week alongside Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello.
Isla and Mia rounded out the top five most popular girls' names, with Ava, Chloe, Grace and Sophia ranking sixth to ninth respectively. Zoe edged into the top 10 as well, moving up from 12th in 2019.
Leo continued its rapid rise in popularity, in the last decade it has moved up 61 spots to reach fourth last year while Lucas, Henry and Liam maintained their top 10 ranks and finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
Parents have 60 days to register their newborn, which can be done for free online.
This establishes the child's legal identity in the community and is important in accessing government services such as schooling and Medicare.
