Fire and Rescue NSW officers will refer an extinguished grass fire in Orange to police for investigation after being called to and completely extinguishing the burn early on Thursday morning.

A crew arrived at the fire on Yellow Box Way, near the Botanic Gardens, at around 6.30am after a nearby walker initially alerted Orange City Council staff at around 6.30am.
Council staff assisted Orange Fire and Rescue officers, both in helping them gain entry to the affected area and then in extinguishing the fire, which was put out completely with relative ease.

The area has been impacted by fires in previous years, but with no suggestion any were intentionally sparked Thursday morning's incident been referred on to police for investigation.
