Gardner's fifth straight 50-plus first grade effort saw Colts chase down the Cavs total of 8-186 with four wickets and just seven deliveries in hand.
The in-form Colts star was assisted by Dave Sellers' effort of 56 - his third half century of the season.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing for Colts who had to pick up the run rate with the pressure on in the last 10 overs.
Luckily for the team the efforts of Dan Casey (16 not out) and Dave Rogerson (10 not out) were enough.
It's becoming congested at the back end of the top four, with third-placed Rugby Union (36 points), Cavs (35) and Colts (32) all bunched together.
RUGBY UNION (5-269) defeated CYMS (211) by 58 runs
A NEW 2020-21 partnership record of 166 runs between Sam Macpherson (89) and Imran Qureshi (69) helped Rugby Union achieve a win over CYMS and in the process retain their place inside the competition's top four.
Qureshi was relatively patient with his effort while Macpherson cut loose on the CYMS attack from the get go, hitting 12 fours and a six with a strike rate of 144.
When Macpherson finally fell to the bowling of Tom West the runs didn't stop for the Rugby boys thanks to Jameel Qureshi (38 not out).
Rory Daburger (2-23) and Hugh Le Lievre (2-48) were the best with the ball for CYMS.
The CYMS chase had plenty of promise thanks to Jack Cale (69), who was promoted way up the order from 10 to five and looked comfortable in his new spot.
But the Rugby attack, who all got in on the wicket-taking action, stopped CYMS well short of the target.
CENTRALS (169) defeated CENTENNIALS BULLS (151) by 18 runs
A MIDDLE order resurgence from Centennials Bulls appeared to put them in the driver's seat during their pursuit of Centrals' 169 at Bloomfield Oval but the Bathurst men were stopped 18 runs shy of the mark.
Centrals' ever-dangerous Fletcher Rose (47) bounced back to form with the bat, supported by Cam Rasmussen (31) and Max Powell (27).
Mick Hutchinson finished with season-best figures of 4-25. Tyler Horton (2-34) and Pat McCleary (2-12) each claimed two scalps and Daniel Bryant (1-21 from eight overs) had an economical day.
All five Centrals bowlers claimed at least one wicket in a brilliant team effort with the ball.
Zac Reimer (3-24) and Ed Dodds (3-41) did most of the damage along with Colin Starkey (2-30).
Kurt (31) and Josh (17) Toole tried to revive the Bulls chase with a spirited 44-run eighth wicket stand but it wasn't quite enough.
BATHURST CITY (7-146) lost to ST PAT'S OLD BOYS (7-147) by three wickets
A 90-run stand from Cooper Brien (54) and Andrew Brown (35) has seen St Pat's Old Boys maintain their unbeaten run through the Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket competition.
Brien and Brown laid the groundwork for the Saints to chase down Bathurst City's total of 7-146 with 14 balls to spare, though a middle order collapse threatened to derail their efforts.
Oliver Simpson (3-16) and Jaidyn Hutchings (2-18) ripped through the Pat's order over a 6-30 run but Hamish Siegert (17 not out) and Hugh Parsons (13 not out) got the blue and whites home.
Redbacks were left to rue another dreary start with the bat after they won the toss at Sportsground but promptly fell to 7-78.
An unbeaten eighth wicket stand between John Rudge (46 not out) and Jarrod Urza (17 not out) was a highlight, while Mark Day (35) was the only other batsman in double digits.
Mitch Taylor (3-32) was the best of the Saints bowlers.
ORANGE CITY (8-224) defeated KINROSS (120) by 104 runs
ORANGE City's Andrew Rutledge continues to be a major headache for Bathurst Orange Inter District Cricket opponents, with the latest victims being Kinross.
Rutledge took impressive figures of 4-8 from six overs as City kept Kinross 104 runs short of the 8-224 target set earlier in the day at Riawena Oval.
Brad Johnson also did work with the ball in his 4-30, and did most of his damage to the Kinross top order.
Kinross' Charlie Tink (27) and George Cumming (30) once again made promising starts with the bat but left themselves short of a milestone score.
Mick Curtale (48) made a big impression in his first BOIDC appearance for City, blasting four fours and three sixes.
The in-form Lachie Coyte (39) and Dave Boundy (37) were the next best of the City batsmen while Cumming had 4-31.
