Why destroy invaluable parkland to make way for a Sports Complex, when Orange can have both!
A site was specifically purchased by Orange Council for the Sports Complex. It now lies empty.
The proposed site of the solar farm was vehemently opposed by Council as being unsuitable because of its location.
In the same vein, the intended location of the Sports Precinct is equally unsuitable, as it would mean the deliberate destruction of an irreplaceable established natural asset, that could easily be transformed into a Family Recreation Park, as Kate Hook so definitively pointed out. Let Orange have both!
Build the Sports Complex on the site originally purchased by Council specifically for that purpose. Transform the great natural parkland that was once used as a golf course into a Family Recreation Park, where people can enjoy the beautiful shade of the many established trees.
Destroying this natural asset when there is an alternative site, is just plain senseless.
How such a small handful of individuals serving for such a short term on a Council can make decisions to unnecessarily destroy priceless natural assets, that former councils with foresight and wisdom have nurtured, is hard to fathom.

One of Orange's most popular mayors, Tim Sullivan, was opposed to the current council's plan.
Long established irreplaceable natural parklands belong to all the people, and decisions to destroy them, especially when there is an alternative, are inexcusable and reckless.
