Adam Daniel Patrick Fleming, 37, of Melaleuca Way, had driven a vehicle to the victim's house as part of a separation of assets before assaulting him on October, 13, 2020.
Fleming arrived at the man's house not long after the victim received a message saying the vehicle would be dropped off.
However, during the exchange, Fleming said he was "very disappointed" then spat towards the victim.
His saliva hit the victim on the left leg then Fleming left without saying anything more and the victim reported the assault to police.
Magistrate David Day convicted Fleming and placed him on a 12-month community release order for the assault.
Mr Day said had he reacted with some other form of conduct, other than spitting, he might have been more lenient.
Solicitor Peter Boyd said Fleming regretted his action.
"The next morning he telephoned the victim and apologised to him then he sent him an email and apologised again," Mr Boyd said.
