Bringing a wealth of high-level experience to the club, the 36-year-old will look to transform the Orange District Football Association A-grade winners into a perennial WPL contender.
And even though some would consider a transition from the NPL to the region's top league as a downgrade, Scimone was impressed with the quality of talent among the returning competition in 2020 and is excited to get a taste of it.
"From what I saw, this competition was pretty exciting... I don't see it as a step down form the NPL" Scimone said.
"This is a really decent level and the attraction for me to come to Waratahs was strong. Being with Western NSW for a long time, it was a great club but we never really had a home base.
"Whereas with Waratahs, I love that we've got the clubhouse and great facilities... the community aspect is what I like."
It's all well and good to go back to the clubhouse for a beer but the new leader knows it won't taste as good if they aren't working hard and winning games.
"We're not here to make up the numbers," he said.
"I always play to win and I've tried to align myself with the best club in Orange. Hopefully I can attract some players to come across.
"The goal for the club is to win and go all the way."
Scimone knows he won't get that sought-after premiership without a star-studded roster, which is why he's open to anyone and everyone ahead of the winter and wants to put an emphasis on training.
"I want to pick a squad of 16-18 that are the best at the club and if you don't train, you don't play," he said.
"I understand people have commitments with work and family but it's hard on the blokes who are coming to training if they don't get picked."
"Just because you've been at the club for 20 years doesn't mean you can waltz in and play. Everyone has to work for their spot, myself included.
