The Cavaliers kid received his second consecutive call-up to the South West side that's set to compete at Dubbo in the State Challenge on January 18-21.

The James Sheahan student will play at this level for the second summer in-a-row and even though he didn't have his best campaign with the Central West side, he was still hoping he'd get the nod.

"I was a bit scared I wasn't going to get picked but it's nice to be on the team again," Blowes said.

"I got two ducks in the last two games so I was a bit nervous."

"I don't know if it was really the performances I had been putting in, I think the coaches just liked what I was doing and thought they could improve me."

Those two first-ball dismissals have motivated Blowes to improve for the upcoming tournament, particularly with the bat in-hand.

"I've always tried to score really quickly but that can be a bit of a downfall," he said.

"I need to try not to hit every ball for six and look to bat for a long time. With bowling, sometimes I get flustered when I get his for a few runs... I need to stay calm." Blowes plays his club cricket at Cavaliers and thanks to coach Stu Middleton, he's come a long way in recent times.

"I've had him since the under 11s and he's been my rep coach as well," he said.

Three Bathurst players selected in under 14s South West team

"The way he used to bat is how I want to bat... he's always putting pressure on the bowler."

Blowes is the only Orange player set to suit up for South West but three talents from Bathurst were also selected. Hugh Taylor, Rupert Begg and Mark Sheather. Dubbo will host the competition from January 18-21.
