Anthony Cavallo gave Alison Smith's Jaywalker the chance it needed to get off the mark in the $22,000 Inland Petroleum Maiden Handicap (1280m) on Sunday afternoon but the mare didn't quite have enough, finishing fourth in its second-up task at the Gilgandra Jockey Club.

The maiden jumped fairly from the second barrier and punters were hoping it could score a long-awaited breakthrough after it was backed from $18 into $8 before the start of the journey.
She went about her work midfield along the rail for the first 800m and looked fairly comfortable along the way.
When the pack approached the bend, Cavallo pulled the mare closer to the middle of the track where she had her chance to hunt down those in front of her, including the fancied Manadria ($2.70) who ended up finishing first.
Jaywalker looked likely to grab a minor prize but was swooped on by Star Dreamer ($26) in the shadows of the post.
I'll Tell You Miss was Smith's next hope in the $22,000 Gilgandra Toyota Maiden Handicap (1600m) and despite jumping at massive odds ($35), battled home to fall short of a minor placing fifth spot.
Andrew Banks did the steering from barrier 13 as the six-year-old mare was battling to find a forward position in the early stages.
The hoop had to niggle at the mare well before the bend but she still finished very strongly and almost defied the $8 place quota.
Kody Nestor's Talented Escape ($9.50) got the win from Urus ($4.60). Finishing third was Money Not My God ($3.30).
