The Warriors had accrued an impressive six-win record and needed a victory over the underdogs to ensure they maintained a healthy gap between themselves and Kinross on the ladder.
Centrals Black posted a decent total in the opening innings as the 201-run effort was largely due to the opening partnership of Will Richard (64) and Damien Caughlan (45) who combined for 63 runs alongside each other.
Based on how they've performed so far, City would have backed themselves to hunt down the total and they looked in a good rhythm early on as Adam Cowden (21) and Jamie Stedman (19) were knocking it around.
But, after reaching 29 runs without dropping a wicket, the ladder leaders lost three in quick succession as they sat 3/44 and under a bit of pressure.
Centrals continued to apply the pressure with the ball in-hand as City wasn't able to get much going with the willow.
City was 3/91 but again dropped three wickets in quick success, falling into a hole at 6/123.
The odds shifted in favour of the bowling side from there on in as Benjamin Winslade (3/1) was genuinely untouchable in a bit more than an over of work.
While the win was a massive breakthrough for Centrals Black, they're too far away from the top four to sneak into the finals.
Centrals Red also joined the winner's circle over the weekend with a 44-run win over CYMS that was helped along by a 78-run knock from Adam Danielson.
The victors still had some work to do defending the total and Roshan Eiseman (5/22) did more than his fair share work with the ball in-hand.
Anthony Salmon (4/34) was also solid despite having six wides.
Cavaliers closed out the three-game card with a dominant 97-run over Kinross.
The victors posted 162 in the opening frame before rolling the students for 65 after the break.
Harry Priest (3/27) was strong for the Cavs.
The result also goes down as somewhat of an upset as the students were sitting at the pointy end of the table going into round 10.
Orange City, Kinross and Centrals Red make up the top three while Cavaliers, Centrals Black and CYMS round out the bottom half of the table.
Centrals Black and CYMS are both all-but out of finals contention.
