A free community Christmas lunch that has been going strong for the past five years may have changed venues, organisers and its menu several times, but its key purpose is the same. No-one should be on their own on Christmas Day, say organisers of the annual Molong Christmas Day Lunch.

"It's not what Christmas is about," said volunteer Julie Spencer, who was responsible for bringing the annual event to the Molong Baptist Church last year - where it will once again be held on Friday, December 25, at noon.
The turn-out is different every year, with up to 60 people turning up on previous occasions. Among whom there is quite the diversity too, Mrs Spencer said; emphasising that the Christmas Lunch "is for everyone", not just those who might be struggling financially.
"It's for everyone. It's for anyone that's alone, [including] families that are alone who want to come and spend it with other families," she said.
"It's not [just] for old people, it's not [just] for young people. It's for people who want to spend Christmas with other people and get to know other people."
While the lunch is free, guests are asked to book in advance and to bring along a present valued between $5 and $10 to participate in a gift exchange.
Bookings can be made online through TryBooking or by contacting Julie Spencer on 0418 973 039.
The Molong Baptist Church is located at 4 Thistle St, Molong. Lunch is served at noon on Friday, December 25.
