Benjamin Biles, 31 of Agate Street, was employed as a manager at two petrol stations in Orange but was caught taking money from two safes.
A company employee discovered the financial discrepancies during a safe audit at both petrol stations on September 11.
According to a summary of information that was tendered to the court on Monday, Biles took bank notes from a safe at each location over several months.
However, at 11am on September 11, a person who was hired to conduct an audit of the safe at the Elsham Avenue petrol station found $180 missing.
The witness raised the discrepancy with Biles who said he had taken the money. The witness then contacted their manager and Biles was suspended from work.
About half an hour later, the witness attended another petrol station in Summer Street where the safe audit showed a discrepancy of $3290.
Biles did not attend a meeting with management on September 16 but sent an email explaining the incident.
Police attended his home the next day and he admitted to taking the money for personal use.
Solicitor Andrew Kelly said Biles now works for a fast-food outlet and his relationship has also ended.

"His previous employment was terminated as a result of these proceedings," he said.
He said Biles moved to Orange 18-months ago to take up the position at the petrol station but found himself struggling financially.
"Mr Biles is unlikely to reoffend," Mr Kelly said.

Mr Day also convicted him, placed him on a six-month community correction order and ordered him to repay $180 for stealing from the Elsham Avenue petrol station.
