IT might be 2020 but to Melbourne indie-rockers Mid City it might as well be 2004. The four-piece's second EP Wishing For The Best is a nostalgic trip back to driving guitars, pulsating bass and anthemic vocals, which they manage with aplomb.

Last year's single Old Habits off the EP Die Waiting was a blistering announcement of intent and Forget It carries similar swagger. Good For It sounds like Hot Fuss-era Killers, with Mid City frontman Joel Griffith doing his best cocksure Brandon Flowers.
The title track serves an insight into Mid City's harmonic strengths as the track blends psych with Boy & Bear-style folk balladry.
There's plenty to like about Wishing For The Best and a solid foundation for their eventual debut album.
