Trained at Randwick by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Regal Stage scored a resounding win in Friday's feature and it came after the six-year-old gelding had won the Snake Gully Cup at Gundagai at the previous start.
A win at Randwick had come before that and Waterhouse was thrilled to see Regal Stage complete his hat-trick in style.
"The wins keep rolling in for Regal Stage, who makes it three in a row in the Mudgee Cup," the first lady of Australian racing tweeted post-race.
Costin rode in the Snake Gully Cup and Friday's win was similar as she got Regal Stage ($4.40) to the lead early.
Regal Stage held a handy advantage turning for home and kicked clear in the straight, going on to score a sixth career win by five lengths from No Escape (Mitchell Bell, $18) with the Bryan Dixon-trained Song One (Reece Jones) finishing strongly from well back for third.
Starting at $201, the Gilgandra-based Song One was the surprise packet against strong company.
Jockey Blaike McDougall starred at Mudgee and finished the meeting with a winning treble.
