On the first occasion Mathew Paul Somerville, 43, of Norman Lane, Molong, was driving a b-double truck near Moree when police stopped him on August 20, 2019.
He tested positive to methampetamine so was fined $660 and was disqualified from driving for six months.
A check of his log book also revealed he breached rest break requirements between in July and August 2019.
He was fined $550 for driving for driving for 13 hours in a 24-hour period, $1100 for not having a continuous seven-hour rest in a 24-hour period, and $220 for not taking a continuous rest break.
His next offence was making false representations that resulted in a police investigation on December 11 last year.
Somerville told police he was driving a Mitsubishi Triton ute from Orange to Cobar but he stopped at the intersection of Kidman Way and Sandy Creek Road, Nymagee, where he was assaulted and the ute was hijacked.
He said he'd been dragged into the bush and was unconscious for two days.
However, police found messages on his phone regarding drug perchases from the period he was supposed to be unconscious.
There were also failed 000 calls. Somerville admitted he lied because his driver's licence was disqualified.
A Nymagee property owner saw tyre tracks on their land on December 11 and found the missing vehicle in a hollow on December 16.
The front of the ute and its tyres were damaged and Somerville's belongings were inside. Police could not determine if there was an assault.
Somerville was given a two-year community correction order with a $220 fine for lying to police.
He was also given a seven-month community-based custodial sentence, a six-month driving disqualification and 20 hours of community service for driving while his licence was disqualified.
He was given an identical sentence for disqualified driving on April 24, 2020.
