The 21-year-old university student at the Australian National University learnt she had been selected as the winner during an online awards ceremony on Sunday.

Ms Crisp had been nominated for the award by the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak's Mary Brell for the humanitarian work the young Orange local had carried out in South East Asia and South Asia following a trip to Nepal in late 2016 for "alternative schoolies".

In Nepal she had organised teams, co-planned activities in schools and ensured that the activities Rotary undertook were compatible with the local culture.

Since returning from that first trip, Ms Crisp had embarked on a number of trips overseas to volunteer, many of them solo.

Her other roles have included being the Coordinator of a Law Reform and Social Justice study tour to Cambodia and Myanmar, and volunteering for Dream Cricket and with Amnesty International.

While studying law, politics, philosophy and economics at university, the 21-year-old had also taken on several more editorial and leadership roles including president of ANU Women in Leadership, and is currently State Coordinator for ActionAid Australia.

Despite her accomplishments, the young Orange resident said she was incredibly shocked and humbled by the win considering the impressive young women she was up against: including Reburdah Dennis, a Gamilaraay girl from Walgett in western NSW; Bethany Dwyer, a Student Learning Support Officer at Mt View High School in the Hunter Valley, and Jemasin Joyce, the 2019 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year.

"Some of their bios were truly spectacular," she said.

"(The win) was a huge shock, I had not even entertained the possibility (it would happen).

"I guess I was just so overwhelmed by how incredible these other women were that I didn't consider myself to be in that category."

The Award was made virtually by The Governor of NSW, Margaret Beazley, and presented to Ms Crisp by Ms Brell on Sunday.

Speaking about her incredible win, the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak called Ms Crisp 'a young woman to watch'.
