Scott James Davis drank three long necks of beer and two glasses of wine before he crashed into a parked Holden Commodore on June 18.

The 45-year-old from Goorawin Road, was driving a Subaru station wagon east on Gardiner Road at 1am when he hit the driver's side of the Commodore.

The crash caused extensive damage on the driver's side of the Commodore; the back wheel was removed from its axle and there was also impact damage and scratching from the tail light to the front light.

Davis knocked on several doors to locate the owner of the Commodore and was writing a letter to the car's owner when police arrived.

He told police he had been drinking at a friend's house and was on his way home at the time of the crash.

He returned a high-range alcohol reading of 0.187 and appeared before magistrate David Day for sentencing.

Mr Day convicted him and gave him a custodial sentence that can be served in the community by way of a nine-month intensive correction order.

Mr Day also ordered him to complete 20 hours of community service, he disqualified Davis's driver's licence for three months, taking into account the time he has already spent off the road as a result of a police suspension.

Mr Day said Davis had previous convictions for similar driving offences from 1997 and 2010 but was otherwise a "highly respected member of the community".

In another matter, Jeremy John Reid, 48, of Margaret Street, was driving a Mitsubishi Triton ute west along Phillip Street about 9.15pm on April 2.

However, he veered to the left about 100 metres east of the Anson Street intersection and crashed into the back of a parked Mazda BT-50 ute.

The impact caused extensive damage to the front of the Triton and the airbags were deployed.

Extensive damage was also caused to the tray of the Mazda ute.

Reid was uninjured and got out of his vehicle and spoke with the owner of the Mazda who came outside after hearing the crash.

Reid returned a positive breath test and on analysis had a high-range reading of 0.193.

He said he drank eight cans of premixed vodka between 2pm and 9pm.

Solicitor Nico Rump said Reid is now out of pocket $30,000 due to repairs needed on both cars.

"Although he was insured, because he was drink-driving the insurance won't cover that," Mr Rump said.

Mr Day convicted Reid and gave him a 12-month community correction order. Mr Day also disqualified his driver's licence for one month, taking into account the period of a police suspension.

Both drivers will have have an interlock devices fitted to their cars for 24 months.
