Council has backed a development application for a major hotel at the Summer Centre fronting Summer Street.
A public submission requested the facade of an old cycle shop be included in the design of the new building but that was not approved.
Council has also supported plans for 76 apartments and townhouses to be built on the site of the old Base Hospital in the heart of Orange,
Several councillors said it was an appropriate future use of the site.
A development plan will now be created for the site in line with the plans.

Council staff will also prepare a report on residents' green bins full of waste being too heavy for garbage collectors to empty.
Council was told the limit was 96 kilograms per bin but there had been a recent case where a bin full of grass weighed 150 kilograms.
Council also has supported the development of a policy on commercial solar farms.
And it withdrew support for providing $2000 to a community broadcasting group after it was told there was a matter before the courts relating to the group.
