Rebekah Jade Trudgett, 37, of Hill Street, appeared before magistrate David Day who asked her why her father couldn't have driven the car since she wasn't licence to drive.

According to a summary of events that was tendered to the court, Trudgett was seen driving in Moulder Street at 10pm on July 22.

A vehicle check revealed the registration had been cancelled since June 6, 2020, so police stopped the car near the intersection with Lords Place.

When they asked for her licence Trudgett said, "I don't have one, it's cancelled".

"What's Miss Trudgett trying to do, work out how many times you can drive while not authorised before you go to jail?" Mr Day asked when she appeared in court.

"She had a learners licence and she didn't get beyond that, we don't know how bad at driving she is.

"This is the third unauthorised driving offence."

Solicitor Gerry Stapleton said Trudgett on July 22 Trudgett was driving her own car to a mechanic and her father was going to discuss with the mechanic the next day about getting it back to a registerable state.

However, Mr Day questioned why Trudgett drove the car to the mechanic and not her father.

"The big concern is it was her own motor vehicle, it's now in her parents possession," Mr Stapleton said.

"Her aspirations are to eventually obtain a licence, she's hoping to obtain employment in some sort of disability service."

A subsequent police check revealled her driver's licence was disqualified from driving from November 25, 2019 until August 17, 2020.

Trudgett was fined $220 and was disqualified from driving for six months for driving while her licence was disqualified.

Mr Day also fined her $110 each for driving an unregistered car and driving a car that had not had its tax paid.
