And gardening expert Reg Kidd says there are added benefits to getting out in your garden. Horticulture has health benefits as well.
"The physical act of working with plants can bring rewards and enjoyment through being creative, having a sense of responsibility through caring for a plant and learning to tolerate frustrations from things such as bad weather and pests," he said. And it's a great way to relive stress.
The garden can give a sense of peace and can be a great place to escape.

Cr Kidd said there were also physical benefits in using muscles, getting out in the fresh air and developing skills which can be used in other areas is also beneficial.
"People respond to the environment," he said.
"We observe nature's cycles and we can come to understand that constant change in what makes for stability and leads to inner peace.
"The garden can give a sense of peace and can be a great place to escape."
Cr Kidd said gardening also allowed people to learn new things.
"Learning how to propagate plants, learning about plants and how to use them and sensory knowledge of touch, smell, colour and shape," he said.
Cr Kidd said gardening also gave people the ability to improve their self-confidence through helping you master something and improve your ability to deal with emotional pressure.
He said horticulture also gave people purpose including the anticipation of waiting for seedlings to grow and plants to flower.
"Horticulture can also open up a new circle of friends," he said.
Cr Kidd said joining gardening clubs gave people the chance to connect to others and learn about gardening was beneficial.
"Horticulture has something for all of us," he said.
"It can create an environment conducive to social interaction and increased morale and social interaction.
"Go gardening, be active, be passive. There is something in it for everyone," he said.
Cr Kidd said you could also benefit from looking at gardens around town, including Cook Park, which has trees and plants that have improved since the drought.
Cook Park was created after land was set aside in the original town plan for Orange for recreation.
And Cr Kidd said a great form of recreation was to stroll around our major park.
