When the winners were read out at the official ceremony in Sydney on Friday afternoon Orange wines were praised.

Mr Jarrett was awarded the Graham Gregory Award, acknowledging an individual's outstanding contribution to the NSW wine industry.

Printhie Wines won the trophy for Best Sparkling Wine in NSW with its NV Swift Rose, See Saw Wines won Best Organic Wine and Best Sauvignon with its 2020 Organic Sauvignon Blanc, Philip Shaw Wines won Best Pinot with its 2019 No. 08 Pinot Noir and Gilbert Wines won Best Reisling with its Gilbert 2019 RS11 Reisling.

Mr Jarrett said he was stunned by the award.

"I feel daunted and overwhelmed by it but I feel proud for the recognition of Orange over the years," he said.

Mr Jarrett said the award had mainly gone to members of leading NSW wine families, particularly from the Hunter Valley.

"We're not from a family dynasty," he said.

Mr Jarrett said the actual prize was pretty impressive.

"It is like winning Wimbeldon, the trophy for the award [is big]," he said.

Mr Jarrett said he planted his first grapes in Young in 1989 and moved with wife, Pip, to Orange in 1990.

He said he had long planned to grow grapes organically and was now pleased to see it being rewarded.

Mr Jarrett said his double-trophy winning sauvignon blanc was affordable.

"It's recommended retail is $25," he said.

Mr Jarrett described it as "a little bit of a diamond in the rough. Sauvignon blanc can be quite fickle in a dry and hot year".

Chair of judges Dave Brookes said it had been a big year for Orange wines.

"Orange again impressed with the precision of its sparkling wines," he said.

"It is worth noting that this is the third year in a row that Printhie Wines has taken home the trophy for Best Sparkling.

"Orange also offered up flavoursome sauvignon blancs and rieslings and beautifully composed pinot noirs."

The trophy winners were among 18 wines produced by Orange region wineries or by others using grapes grown in the region that won gold medals in these awards earlier this month.

They represented 27 per cent of the 65 gold medals awarded among 904 entrants.

The NSW Governor's Trophy for Best in Show went to Hunter Valley winery Briar Ridge for its 2018 Dairy Hill Single Vineyard Semillon.

Mr Brookes said it was a deserved winner.

"It is a wine of fine precision, detail and clarity and one that highlights all that is great about the Hunter's iconic and world-renowned grape variety. A beautifully composed wine, delicious at this stage of its evolution and one with a promising cellar life.

"The Hunter surprised no one with the strength of its delicious semillons and gorgeous medium-bodied shiraz styles.

"Cabernets from Hilltops impressed the judges, as did the focussed cool-climate shiraz from Canberra and we were all blown away by the quality of the chardonnay from Tumbarumba."
