The police officers stopped John Eric Mervyn Johansen, 33, of Bonnie Court, Hope Valley, after seeing him speeding on McLachlan Street at 2am on September 3.
Johansen slowed down in Byng Street and police followed him along Seymour, March and Winter streets before stopping him in Mulga Bill Place.
He could not produce his driver's licence and said he left it at home in Kenna Street and he returned a positive breath test that gave a mid-range reading of 0.103 on analysis.
He told police he drank one bourbon mixed-drink at 1.45am.
Johansen was convicted without further penalty for driving without carrying a licence.
He was also fined $550, disqualified from driving for three months and was ordered to have an interlock device fitted for 12 months.
