I believe most residents would quickly agree with Cr. Joanne McRae's commonsense and realistic reasons for this change.
It would improve pedestrian safety; reduce through traffic from the CBD; make it easier to cross busy roads and encourage people to shop in the city. Some of these reasons are based on good, solid research.
Having been driving for over 60 years, my experience in Orange has been that there are very few lengths of streets in the proposed CBD area where I could exceed 40km/h limit, and with an ageing population of cautious drivers, I'm sure that I'm not Robinson Crusoe.
As the poet Ogden Nash once said: "I prefer to forget both pairs of glasses and pass my declining years saluting strange women and grandfather clocks".
