Kurt Christopherson of Belgravia Road, at Molong was travelling along Euchareena Road near Molong when he was stopped for the random breath test at 12.30am on July 26.
After returning a positive result the 30-year-old was arrested and taken to Molong Police Station for a breath analysis.
He returned a high-range reading of 0.153 at the police station and said he drank at least 10 schooners of beer before driving.
He said he started drinking about 2.45pm and finished his last drink about 10 minutes before he was stopped by the police.
Solicitor Mason Manwaring said it was not the manner of his driving that brought his client to police attention.
Mr Manwaring said Christopherson has a 40 kilometre commute to work and he has completed the Traffic Offenders Intervention Program.
Christopherson appeared in Orange Local Court before magistrate David Day for sentencing last week.
"His driving record is not too bad for a young man," Mr Day said.
"This matter however, requires a conviction and a mandatory interlock order."
Mr Day fined him $1100, disqualified his driver's licence for four months and ordered him to have an interlock device, which would detect any alcohol on his breath, fitted for his car for 24 months.
