Michael John Nicholls, 28, of Margaret Street, was given a custodial sentence when he faced Orange Local Court on Wednesday for resisting and assaulting police after he kicked a police officer in the arm while being loaded into the caged vehicle.
Nicholls was also convicted of using offensive language, offensive behaviour and failing to comply with a direction.
According to police, officers saw Nicholls urinating on the wall opposite the taxi rank in Lords Place where between 50 and 60 people were waiting to catch a taxi about 2.20am on January 26.
Police approached him and while he continued to urinate he became aggressive shouting, "f*** off, go away, you're done here, get back in your car and leave".
When he finished, police told him that in future he should make more of an effort to urinate out of sight of the general public.
According to police Nicholls smelt strongly of alcohol and was told to leave the area or he would receive an infringement notice for offensive behaviour but he continued to say he did nothing wrong.
He was told to leave multiple times but stood on the road blocking traffic and at one stage a bystander yelled, "how many chances are you going to give him?"
Eventually Nicholls was walked off the road and handcuffed however he began to violently resist when his phone fell out of his pocket when he was being searched.
Nicholls was wrestled into the pod of the police vehicle but kicked out numerous times and struck a senior constable in the left forearm causing pain, swelling and bruising.
However, solicitor Mason Manwaring said no evidence such as photos of the injuries was supplied by the sentencing date.
The sentences will be served in the community by way of intensive corrections orders and he will have to serve 160 hours of community service and abstain from drugs and alcohol for 18 months.
Nicholls was also fined $400 for using offensive language and he was given a six-month community corrections order for failing to comply with the move-on direction.
